Description

Hi,

The latest Gentoo Package of VirtualBox 1.4.0 does not load the module 'vboxdrv' correctly, it get the following error (dmesg):

vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol do_munmap vboxdrv: Unknown symbol do_munmap vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol free_pages vboxdrv: Unknown symbol free_pages vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol find_vma vboxdrv: Unknown symbol find_vma vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol do_mmap_pgoff vboxdrv: Unknown symbol do_mmap_pgoff vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol contig_page_data vboxdrv: Unknown symbol contig_page_data vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol down_write vboxdrv: Unknown symbol down_write vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol up_write vboxdrv: Unknown symbol up_write vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol preempt_schedule vboxdrv: Unknown symbol preempt_schedule vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol mod_timer vboxdrv: Unknown symbol mod_timer vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol copy_to_user vboxdrv: Unknown symbol copy_to_user vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol vmap vboxdrv: Unknown symbol vmap vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol printk vboxdrv: Unknown symbol printk vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol misc_register vboxdrv: Unknown symbol misc_register vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol alloc_pages vboxdrv: Unknown symbol alloc_pages vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol down_read vboxdrv: Unknown symbol down_read vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol jiffies vboxdrv: Unknown symbol jiffies vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol vfree vboxdrv: Unknown symbol vfree vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol autoremove_wake_function vboxdrv: Unknown symbol autoremove_wake_function vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol del_timer vboxdrv: Unknown symbol del_timer vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol vmalloc vboxdrv: Unknown symbol vmalloc vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol mem_map vboxdrv: Unknown symbol mem_map vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol up_read vboxdrv: Unknown symbol up_read vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol kmalloc vboxdrv: Unknown symbol kmalloc vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol strpbrk vboxdrv: Unknown symbol strpbrk

The package I downloaded from your website generates a working module. Still I would like to use only the Gentoo package and not have to install both packages.

Thank you for your Feedback. Zeno

I'm afraid that you will have to take this up with the maintainers of the Gentoo package, since we do not produce it.

Dear Trac

Thank you for your Feedback.

What are the commands to rebuild the "vboxdrv" manually if I compile VirtualBox from Source?

Thanks Zeno

Off topic: What "iki are you guys using! I like it!

Export+build the vboxdrv module from the svn with

src/VBox/HostDrivers/Support/linux/export_modules ~/vboxdrv.tar.gz
cd ~
tar -xzf vboxdrv.tar.gz
cd vboxdrv
./build_in_tmp install

The last command assumes that the kernel sources of the current kernel can be found in /lib/modules/uname -r/build.

So I could do a direct checkout of the module vboxdrv.tar.gz from svn with above command? This is useful information. Thanks!
