Another user report of this failing, Vista host, "my vm is setup with 512mb of ram, linux 2.6, 20gb hd". Other settings at default.

Same problem here. WinXP host, Guest config: 504MB RAM, 8MB video, 8.22GB VDI. Goes through install fine up to the bootloader where the whole VM freezes up. Tried it a couple of times without success.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

I am having the same problem and repeated attempts to install Fedora 7 keeping freezing up the VM at the "Installing Bootloader" step.

Host: Dual CPU AMD, 1Gig Memory, Windows XP Professional. Guest: 400MB Ram, Linux 2.6, 20Gig HDD, 32MB video ram. All other settings defaults.

We just fixed a problem for Linux guests on AMD hosts in current svn. The Local APIC was not enabled in that case which confused Linux. It would be helpful if someone could check if the fix helps for this issue.

Replying to frank:

I'd be happy to if you could let me know how I do that. Are there binaries of the development versions, or do I have to build it from svn source?

Same problem for me, Host Dual AMD /Windows XP. Guest Fedora 7 installation failed four times (I tried both with IO APIC enabled and disabled).

Some news/solutions on this problem, or do I have to choose a different Distro (or virstualization software) ?

VirtualBox 1.5.0 now seems to have fixed this problem. Thanks to the developers.
