Description
For hosts with at least 4GB RAM which are running a 32-bit host OS, typically only 3.25 or 3.5GB of RAM is usable by the host OS (the remainder appearing above the 4GB mark, though I guess that depends on the host chipset).
Is it possible to enable VirtualBox 64-bit guests to use that extra RAM? That could allow, for example, a 512MB guest to be used without any impact on host memory usage.

That would be possible but this would require a re-write of a major part of the VMM and it would induce some performance penalties. The requirement is that the whole guest memory is mapped into the address space of the host process. Therefore the limitation is something less than 2GB on 32-Bit Windows hosts and a little bit more on 32-Bit Linux hosts. If you really need more guest memory you have to install a 64-Bit operating system at your host.
