Description
When installing VirtualBox 2.1.0 in Ubuntu 8.10, nm-applet notifies that the wireless network has been disconnected. After rebooting, wireless card cannot find wireless networks in either Ubuntu or Windows Vista. Rebooting/shutting down does not fix this. Uninstalling the device using Windows Vista's device manager and reinstalling it re-enables the wireless connections.

Sorry, I will correct that - do not just delete that line, but replace it with the line
true

This is a problem in the dkms command, as it does things that it perhaps shouldn't. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/262974 for the details. You can work around this by uninstalling dkms, or by changing /usr/sbin/dkms to remove the line
