Can't load vboxvfs in x64 ubuntu guest
Reported by: | Valafar | Owned by:

Component: | shared folders | Version: | VirtualBox 2.0.4 |
Keywords: | ubuntu sharedfolders x64 | Cc:
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description
I recently upgraded from 2.0.2 x64 to 2.0.4 x64 and installed Kubuntu 8.10 x64 as guest (I also have kubuntu x86 8.04).
When trying to mount shared folder in former:
$ sudo mount -t vboxsf vbox /mnt/virtualbox => /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device
And when trying modprobe:
$ sudo modprobe vboxvfs => FATAL: Error inserting vboxvfs (/lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/misc/vboxvfs.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Mounting shared folders in latter, x86 kubuntu guest, works fine.
There's the output from dmesg as attachment.

Sorry for not mentioning earlier: We found the problem. Please have a look at #2550, I've described a workaround there.
Note:
See TracTickets
for help on using tickets.
Please could you update your 8.10 Kubuntu to the latest packages and then resinstall the guest additions? I seems that the kernel headers the vboxvfs module was compiled with did not match the kernel.
