ActivCard smart card reader fails

Description
I have an ActivCard 2 smart card reader attached to the host PC (Windows XP Pro) and the virtual machine is also running Windows XP Pro (both SP3). The card reader works correctly with the host machine, but is not recognized by the VM. If I hover over the USB icon at the bottom of the VM window it says "No USB devices attached." If I right-click that icon and select the card reader I receive an error dialog (screen shot will be attached to this ticket). I have installed all the components to ActivClient 6.1 on the guest (and host) machine.
