RedHat 5 64-bit install crashes VirtualBox 2.0.2

Reported by: ChrisJenkins Owned by:
Component: VMM/HWACCM Version: VirtualBox 2.0.2

Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

I am running 64-bit VirtualBox 2.0.2 on a 64-bit machine running 64-bit Vista Business SP1. I am trying to install RedHat Enterprise 5 Update 2 (actually Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 which is simply a rebadged version of RedHat). Part way through the install, VirtualBox crashes. I have run this a ferw times and each time it fails, but at different points. I have attached the VM settings file, the machine log file and the image (.png) file.

Any progress on this? I am stuck at the moment as I cannot install the 64-bit Linux O/S in my VM.

There should be a message from the assertion in your dmesg.

Not sure I follow you. I sent all the VirtualBox logs. Are you saying there is some other log I need to send? Since it is VirtualBox that crashes, I'm not sure how any message from the Linux log will help. As I mentioned, I am running 64-bit VirtualBox 2.0.2 In a Vista 64-Bit host and trying to install a RedHat 5u2 guest. Part way through the guest installation (typically on CD 2 or 3) VirtualBox crashes...

You are right, actually this host is Windows not Linux. Please retry with the next release of VirtualBox. If this bug still happens then the log will contain more useful information. For now (version 2.0.2), some information about the error message is missing. On a Linux host it would be visible in the host's kernel log.

Try again with 2.0.4 and attach a new log please. Previously the error didn't log the relevant information.

  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Resolution set to worksforme

Retry again with 2.1.2 and reopen if necessary (new log too please).
