#22367 new defect
Return of the audio disappearing issues in 7.1 branch

Description
The problems caused by switching the audio output device on the host, once solved, returned now in the latest build. This looks like an old #20431 and all the tickets behind it, but with some changes.
What I do is still change from headphones or built-in speakers to a BT device and back on the host. The 7.0 branch hasn't such issues. The last working build of 7.1 branch was 7.1.7 r167673 and 7.1.97-167671. As of 7.1.7 r167903 the behavior reminds exactly the old ticket: after the switch from computer device to BT and back, the second switch to BT headphones is ignored by VirtualBox and sound is disappearing, because VirtualBox still tries to get it through the old active device (built-in), but this device isn't active anymore.
As of 7.1.7 r168159, 7.1.97 r168032 and 7.1.97 r168266 switch is only happening to the BT device, but the switch back to the built-in audio output device is causing the whole VBox to hang. One can only kill it through the task manager of the host.
I put all the logs and will upload the written audio data on some host.
There is another ticket about the caching the stale sound device now, the #22267.

Just to confirm that I too am seeing the same behaviour, also with bluetooth audio and back to the internal sound card. This is with both the v7.1 r168159 and development r168266 builds, with the guest additions r167994 and r168032 respectively.
I will try to generate the fault later and upload my logs.

I think this might be fixed in the latest v7.1.x build r168280. I've not had any crashes with this build yet.
Edit: I was wrong, I experienced a crash. Ignore the above post.

Just tested with 7.1.7-168280 and 7.1.97-168324, it still happens. It isn't a crash - my virtual machine just hangs itself.
Because we are near the end of the development window and there is nearly zero chance somebody would find and fix the culprit till Easter, the next 7.1.x release would probably have this audio bug. ;-(
