VirtualBox TAP driver fails to work when installed

Description
When installing the VirtualBox TAP driver using the VirtualBox Host Interfaces I receive the unsigned driver prompt, which I accept, and then a VirtualBox error box (see first attachment). The new driver is installed but does not function, giving me a bizarre, nonsensical error (see second attachment).
I already have an existing, working TAPv9 driver installed for OpenVPN.
I also have two non-working VMWare Network drivers which have different errors I have not been able to resolve.
This is an upgrade of 2.0.2 over an unrun, fresh install of 2.0.0. I created my first VM and attempted to add a host interface when I got this error.

I should also mention I am running Windows XP SP3. The screenshots look like Vista, sorry (I am using a custom msstyle theme).

Also I should note that I previously had a TAPv8 driver for a different program. That driver did not work either, although it claims it can coexist with OpenVPN's driver: http://colinux.wikia.com/wiki/TAP-Win32_driver

If I use OpenVPN 2.1rc10's tapinstall.exe helper program to install the VBox TAP driver, tapinstall claims to fail but the driver appears in device manager and claims to be working with no problem. However it does not appear as a host interface in VirtualBox.
If I then uninstall it, try to install through VBox, I get the same error and problem as before.
If I then uninstall that one and try reinstalling with tapinstall.exe again, I get the same nonsensical error I just got with the driver I installed through VirtualBox.

The TAP driver will be obsolete in the next version, so there's no need to fix this on our end.
