USB 2.0 (OHCI + EHCI) controller does not work

Description

I have been using various virtual machines with Windows guest systems (Win7, Win10). Those virtual machines are set to chipset "PIIX3" and use access to USB devices of the host using the USB 2.0 controller. All virtual machines have worked fine using Virtualbox V6.1 on host system Linux Mint 20 (which is based on Ubuntu Focal).

I recently switched to new hardware (with Intel H610 chipset) using Linux Mint 21 (which is based on Ubuntu Jammy).

Using Virtualbox V6.1.50 for Ubuntu Jammy, the virtual machines again work fine including USB access using USB 2.0 controller. Unfortunately, Virtualbox V6.1 is outdated.

But using Virtualbox V7.0.14 for Ubuntu Jammy, my virtual machines cannot use USB 2.0 any more. Setting the USB controller in the virtual machine definition to USB 2.0 (OHCI + EHCI) mode causes errors in the guest systems concerning the USB controller. Therefore, the automatic USB recognition does not work and no USB device can be used. However, setting the USB controller in the virtual machine definition to USB 3.0 (xHCI) mode leads to a working USB access. This is no problem for a Win10 guest. But a Win7 guest has no USB 3.0 driver, so it is a real problem.

The USB 2.0 controller should work as it did in Virtualbox V6.1.

We're working on a fix. And yes, it is annoying that Intel doesn't provide the xHCI driver for Windows 7 any more.
