Black Screen and Blinking Cursor using 3D Accelerator

Description
I have installed VB-7.0.6 with 7.0.6 Guest Additions on my Windows 7 Pro client. However, if I turn on 3D Accelerator in Settings, my system then has a black screen and a blinking cursor and is unusable.
When I reported this issue here: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewforum.php?f=2 I was instructed to open a ticket.
