#20371 assigned defect
Video recording settings not saved
Reported by: | Reiner Brodbeck | Owned by: | pentagonik |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 6.1.22 |
Keywords: | video recording | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description
It seems that video recording settings of VMs are not saved. At least this is true for file path and frame size. Leaving VirtualBox Manager and restarting it, video recording settings are back to default.
In the .vbox file of the VM, I found the entry VideoCapture never reflecting these settings.
Maybe this is related to 20297, because depending on the modification history of video recording settings I experience the same crash.

Reproduced and fixed the issue -- the fix will be available in the next upcoming maintenance version.

There is a new 6.1 test build available here which should fix the issues.
Please let me know if this works for you now. Thanks!

As you see I am now Reiner.B instead of ReinerB. I currently use VirtualBox only for private purpose, no longer in company. For that reason I currently don't use video recording. So I'm not interested in verifying the bug fix.
Confirmed. The settings handling is not correct and the result is what you observed: the settings will not be saved. I couldn't get settings other than the "enabled" state of the whole thing to be saved into the config file.
There is a workaround: setting the video recording parameters (either using the GUI or CLI) when the VM is already running, immediately before enabling recording.
