#19509 awaitsfeedback defect

Windows 10 VM crashes after copy/paste text coming from Ubuntu 18.04 browser window

Reported by: D.Bugger Owned by:
Component: guest additions Version: VirtualBox 6.1.6
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

It happened twice: I copied some text in a browser and intended to paste it in a Windows application. The whole VM disappeared and the VBox Manager indicated "Aborted" (or similar). It might be Vbox, it might also be the Guest Additions, I can't tell.

So I did try to reproduce this on host: Ubuntu 18.04.4 and guest: Windows 10 build 1909. I selected and copied some parts of a webpage from a Firefox browser on the host (and using bidirectinal shared clipboard) I pasted that successfully into a notepad editors text file on Windows 10. This was using Virtualbox 6.1.6 on the host and GAs 6.1.4 in the guest.

I did also try the same with the 6.1.6 GAs installed in the Windows 10 test and again failed to reproduce.

Please can you be mor specific on what you actually copied and how so we can find a reproducable test case?

the attached log file does not seem to indicate any error either:

also please provide your VM settings related to the graphics adapter and such.

Thank you for testing this.

It didn't happen straight away, but after quite some time, can't remember exactly how long, guessing 15-30 minutes of working in both Windows and Linux. I had a page open in Firefox and wanted to copy some text to a Windows application, and poof! After restarting it happened again, and then I went back to 6.1.4, so far so good. I'm afraid I cannot be more specific, it's 9 days ago since it happened and I really can't remember what I copied, just some text... I know reproducing the bug is important, but it doesn't happen any more on my current setup (with 6.1.4).

By the way: strange that there's nothing in the log file. I removed the .crash file from my systems for it was huge, too large to add anyway.

Good news: when VirtualBox 6.1.8 was released, I upgraded, and haven't had a problem since. To me the problem has become of academic interest only.
