Description
I have shared a folder from my linux host and boot a windows 10 pro (64-bit originally installed from M$ download site) guest vm to use windows explorer to view the files in the share which appears as Z: drive. I choose to change the sort column to view by modified date and I can no longer get a response from the win 10 guest. The next moment I see the vm rebooting. I can reproduce this behaviour each time. Linux 64 bit vbox 6.0.10 r132072 (Qt5.9.5) I have attached the logfile

Does this happen with latest Virtualbox versions 6.0.14 and/or 6.1?

I had exactly the same problem on VirtualBox 6.1.14 since yesterday. Therefore I upgraded to 6.1.16 r140961, but I can still reproduce it and very consistently crash my Windows 10 on Linux (Ubuntu 18.04/5.4.0-52-generic #57~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 15 14:04:49 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux):
- Open windows explorer
- go to drive (z: for me also)
- click on date to sort on date
- crash

Somehow this problem disappeared and now reappeared. I upgraded to 6.1.18 (and also upgraded the guest additions), and it is again reproducabel. On th moment I click on the folder I shared, it halts the machine with following logs:
00:00:49.809248 GUI: UIMachineViewNormal::adjustGuestScreenSize: Adjust guest-screen size if necessary 00:00:49.809313 GUI: UIMachineViewNormal::adjustGuestScreenSize: Adjust guest-screen size if necessary 00:00:49.809326 GUI: UISession::sltAdditionsChange: GA state change event came, notifying listeners 00:00:49.809332 GUI: UIMachineLogicNormal::sltCheckForRequestedVisualStateType: Requested-state=0, Machine-state=5 00:00:49.809349 GUI: UISession::sltAdditionsChange: GA state change event came, notifying listeners 00:00:49.809354 GUI: UIMachineLogicNormal::sltCheckForRequestedVisualStateType: Requested-state=0, Machine-state=5 00:03:53.068622 GIM: HyperV: Guest indicates a fatal condition! It is not all folders, but only the Download folder on my home drive and not the Documents folder for example. Following is the listing:
drwxr-xr-x 6 XXXX YYYY 4096 jan 13 19:20 Documents drwxrwxr-x 31 XXXX YYYY 131072 feb 11 17:37 Downloads
When I move my Downloads to Downloads-old and creat a new Downloads as follows:
drwxr-xr-x 6 bdobbels bdobbels 4096 jan 13 19:20 Documents drwxrwxr-x 2 bdobbels bdobbels 4096 feb 11 18:12 Downloads drwxrwxr-x 31 bdobbels bdobbels 131072 feb 11 17:37 Downloads-old
I can again access the new Downloads folder without problems. If I access the old one, I get a crash, so it has definitely something to do with the state of the Folder on the host system or its content, maybe a character in a file or too large? It probably happens when the folder contents.
Any pointers are welcome.

Hi Captain cranium, I solved this issue. It was a not permitted char in file's name. In my case it was "$" created by the host (Mac OS) after moving file in the shared folder. I hope that can help you.
Cheers.
