#18906 closed defect (worksforme)

VB Guest freezes when you browse to shared folder with particular file in it

Reported by: Tony_C Owned by:
Component: shared folders Version: VirtualBox 6.0.12
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

I run Win10pro 64 bit Host and Guest.

I copied AEROADMIN.EXE (commercial remote access client program) to the shared folder in the host. When I open the folder in the guest the guest freezes solid.

If I remove this file from the shared folder I can open the shared folder in the guest without problem (even with other zip and exe files in it)

This occurred in v6.0.10 so I upgraded but it still occurs in 6.0.12

Are you 100% sure that you upgraded the Guest Additions (GAs) in the guest as well?

Yes both VB and the guest additions is v6.0.12r133076. Both host and guest are win10pro 1903. Host runs trend micro but I disabled it to test and same result.

I'd like to see a VBox.log. You were actually supposed to follow these steps when you filed the bug, and provide a VBox.log:

Attach a (full) log file ("Machine" menu/"Show Log" in the main VirtualBox Manager window) straight away to save time for you and for us. The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. Please do not cut and paste it.

Host runs trend micro but I disabled it to test and same result.

Actually try to completely uninstall it, don't just disable it. Disabling it affects the front-end (most of the times), not the engine running in the background...

Apologies. I tried to reproduce the crash to get the log file but it works fine now AFAICS. I can view and even run the sample problem EXE in the shared folder. I will leave the bugtracker to the experts from now on. Regards

Great! I guess we can close this as a [WorksForMe] then, since it actually works for you... ;)
