#18839 new defect

Guest VMs will only start headless

Reported by: nthexwn Owned by:
Component: VM control Version: VirtualBox 6.0.10
Keywords: Cc: nthexwn@…
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

After upgrading from VirtualBox5 to VirtualBox6 none of my existing VMs will start unless I choose the "Headless Start" option from the dropdown menu.

Once a VM is running I'm able to bring up the GUI by clicking on the "Show" button.

This problem also appears to be affecting new VMs as well. I'm not even able to get to the "select ISO" prompt since the new machines crash before reaching that point.

The same workaround applies: I'm able to launch new machines headlessly and then click on the "Show" button.

You have a hardening problem:

3008.26ac: supR3HardNtChildWaitFor[1]: Quitting: ExitCode=0xc0000005 (rcNtWait=0x0, rcNt1=0x0, rcNt2=0x103, rcNt3=0x103, 37 ms, CloseEvents);

Please read really carefully the following FAQ: Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues for some generic guidelines/ideas. Those are guidelines, you have to use your judgement as to which program might be responsible...

Also make sure to update your GPU drivers and/or disable 3D acceleration, see if that changes the situation...

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
