Always NS_ERROR_FAILURE after latest Fedora 29 update

Reported by: chla Owned by:

Description

After Fedora 29 latest update, it's not possible to start any VM in virtualbox.

Kernel version is 4.19.15-300.fc29.x86_64

The message The virtual machine '<name>' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). is always returned with :

Error code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {5047460a-265d-4538-b23e-ddba5fb84976}

I've remove VirtualBox and reinstalled it with same problem.

I've remove 6.0.2 and installed 6.0.0 with same problem.

There's no error when "/sbin/vboxconfig" is launched.

There's no error when "/sbin/rcvboxdrvd setup" command is launched.

And no log is generated in the vms... I have no idea to solve the problem.

Same behaviour for all my VMs (as root or not): Windows, Kali, RedHat.

Hello,

I've tried to go back to 5.2 version and another problem appears. The problem is described in https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=88900 => The solution was to execute a 'chown root:root' on /usr, /usr/lib and /usr/lib/virtualbox.

And I've discovered that /usr is not attached to root user but to a another user (with no root rights) !

By executing chown root:root /usr, VirtualBox 5.2 becomes totally funtional !

So I've deinstalled VBox 5.2 and reinstalled 6.0.2 and ... it works fine !

My error in 6.0 is only due to bad owner on /usr !
