#18149 new defect

USB headset disconnection on windows host freezes linux guest

Reported by: oksijun Owned by:
Component: audio Version: VirtualBox 5.2.22
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Linux

Description

After disconnecting a USB headset (sennheiser mb 660 uc ms) in the host system, the vm freezes (i.e. is no longer responsive to clicks or any other form of interaction including network access). The VirtualBox GUI is no longer responsive either. Repeatedly clicking in the guest window eventually causes it to abort and the VirtualBox GUI becomes responsive again.

Host: Windows 7 x86_64 Guest: Arch linux x86_64

Host type inadvertently set to Linux, please set to Windows.

We also experience this with various headsets, using a Windows 10 guest on Fedora Linux 28 host, as well as VirtualBox 6.0.

Audio: enabled (Driver: PulseAudio, Controller: HDA, Codec: STAC9221)

Fedora is:

Linux cn30-vcl3 4.19.13-200.fc28.x86_64 #1 SMP Sat Dec 29 23:10:35 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

We downgraded to 5.2.22, and while I can't report that audio works with it, I can say that the act of connecting/disconnecting to/from the jack does NOT cause a screen freeze.
