It looks fine here, see the attached https://www.virtualbox.org/attachment/ticket/18018/VirtualBox_Mint%2019_27_09_2018_20_43_19.png.
I think it's the theme that you're using. You might want to stick with the defaults? Or a theme that works?

Here is a very belated reply, Socratis.
I believe that I am using one of Mint Cinnamon's default themes, namely, a dark theme, And changing that theme does not affect how VirtualBox looks. I believe that this because those themes are GTK and VirtualBox uses QT. Indeed I find that it is only because I have the program 'qt5ct' installed that I can give VirtualBox a dark theme at all - by telling qt5ct to use the 'kvantum-dark' theme for QT applications.
I find further the following.
1) Using any of the light themes that qt5ct offers - and those light themes comprise _all_ the other themes that the program offers - makes the problem go away. (Yet, I want VirtualBox to be themed in the same way as everything else on my system - or at least in a dark way.)
2) qt5ct has an 'exception' list, but adding the VirtualBox binary to it makes no difference to VirtualBox's UI.
3) The contents of the 'about' box are unaffected by setting a dark mode in qt5ct.
3 might point to the cause of the problem with the 'About' text.
