Request for Pardus Linux Distribution Support

Description

I would like to request support for the Pardus Linux Distribution for a Virtualbox host.

Pardus is different to other distros as it has the following which may impact Virtualbox support: Mudur (Start-up script framework) PiSi (Package Manager using .pisi packages)

I can install Virtualbox from the 'all distributions' .run package after I install the following packages from the Pardus Package Manager: kernel-source gcc make

I am using Pardus 2008

The Virtualbox packages in the Pardus repositories are the OSS edition and only version 1.5.6.2

It would be great if you could build a .pisi package of the latest version and put it on the sun xvm virtualbox download page.

Unfortunately we aren't able to provide an installer package for Pardus, but what you might like to do would be to write a script that can install our "all distributions" installer onto a Pardus system (the user would have to download that installer themselves from sun.com of course) and register it in the Pardus package registry. Gentoo have an ebuild in their repository which does just this. You can unpack the "all distributions" installer using the command

<installer package> --keep --noexec

(you could also do this from your script) and take a look at the file "install/install" which does the actual installation work. It is also possible to place the files into different directories - the VirtualBox binaries are relocatable, and will run as long as the libraries are found somewhere in the library path. Hope that helps.
