Solaris guest additions too old to use in openindiana/hipster

Reported by: rliegh Owned by:

Description

I tried to install Openindiana "hipster" October 2017 release as a Solaris guest on a windows 10 (amd64, home) host.

When I try to install the guest additions, the process fails because the xorg driver version included with the additions seem to be too old.

Here is the output I get when i try to pkgadd from the root prompt;

The output lost it's formatting when I pasted it. The steps are pretty easy to reproduce (a clean install and a guest addtions reinstall both produce the same results). I did a pkgrm, followed by a reboot (of the vm) and a reinstallation, saving the output to a file which I have attached.

Thank you for your time.

Replying to rliegh:

I am still getting this error and I still cannot fully install the guest additions.

However, as a work-around; I ran an update which gave me the xorg virtualbox drivers, and I moved /etc/X11/xorg.conf out of the way. As a result I can get a higher resolution by using the Virtual Box GUI (view, virtual screen 1, select screen resolution) and the GUI in Hipster/Mate (preferences -> hardware -> displays). Dynamic resizing doesn't work, but it hasn't in quite some time anyway.

Thanks! :)
