VirtualBox crashes on adding new disk to VM

Description

I upgraded from VirtualBox 5.1.22 to 5.1.28 on my workstation (Windows 7 64-bit), and starting then, when I open the dialog for adding a disk to a VM, the dialog box opens, and before I can click anything, VirtualBox crashes.

I tried upgrading to 5.1.30, but it still crashes.

A full dump from 5.1.30 can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/s/mk59axufq9c7ijo/VirtualBox.exe.9068.dmp?dl=1 (since I think 130MB is probably too large to attach to a report).

The relevant Event Viewer entry says:

Faulting application name: VirtualBox.exe, version: 5.1.30.18389, time stamp: 0x59e48079
Faulting module name: Qt5GuiVBox.dll, version: 5.6.2.0, time stamp: 0x58e261e1

Just to add another data point.

This has been happening to me in the past 3 versions. Just as previous poster stated, when when adding a disk, when the dialog box opens, it crashes. It crashes 50% of the time when adding a drive to a separate controller.

Here is the entry from Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: VirtualBox.exe, version: 5.2.6.20293, time stamp: 0x5a5cc1cb
Faulting module name: Qt5GuiVBox.dll, version: 5.6.2.0, time stamp: 0x58e261e1

Faulting process id: 0x1554
Faulting application start time: 0x01d3948469b9df8f
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VirtualBox.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\Qt5GuiVBox.dll

I am using Windows 7 Pro.

Usually those crashes are due to the Qt toolkit, and most often due to the Windows "namespaces" installed on your computer.

Namespaces are additions that can be seen on the left hand side of a Windows Explorer window (when the tree is shown). The most typical example is Microsoft's OneDrive (but this doesn't crash). Things that might appear are Bluetooth ones, phones, cameras, media players, etc. You can find them in either or both of the following keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

Do you have any of those additional namespaces installed?

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
