Guest crashes when disconnecting cables from laptop

Reported by: johank Owned by:
Component: VM control Version: VirtualBox 5.1.18
Keywords: guest crash memory Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: other

Description

The XUbuntu 16.04.1 desktop guest crashes when I disconnect all cables (power, headphones, usb-keyboard and VGA) from my laptop. It seem to be due to a memory reference error, see attachemnt.

I run VB 5.1.18 r114002.

Host is Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1

Forgot to mention that I also disconnect the LAN cable. HW is a HP ProBook 430 G3. CPU is Intel Core i5-6200U. Mem 8GB.

Some additional observations. One need to run the guest for a while for this to happen. The error does not happen when starting up a guest and then immediately disconnect the cables.

Do you have by any chance the monitor automount GUI feature enabled (requires extradata tweaking)?

It would really help if you would follow the recommendations for filing bugs - VBox.log would be tremendously useful.

I don't know. Where do I enable that feature?

It crashed today when pulling the cables (using Version 5.1.28 r117968 (Qt5.6.2)). It seems like it crashed when pulling the USB to the external keyboard. Vbox.log attached. Also attached the hardening log.

It is rather easy to make it crash so if you want any more info I can probably help.

This does not happen anymore with latest VB 5.2.26. I consider this solved.
