VBox 5.1.16 cannot mount shared directories (Win host, Ubuntu guest)

Component: | guest additions | Version: | VirtualBox 5.1.16 |
Keywords: | mount, fails, shared | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description
After updating to VirtualBox 5.1.16 (it forced to update to VBoxGuestAdditions 5.1.16), it starts to load VM but fails to mount shared folders (Error msg: No such file or directory). I suspect it cannot find the "device file", because mount target directory is there.
When downgrade to 5.1.14 it loads and runs with no problem.
Host OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
Guest OS: Ubuntu 14.04 (scotchbox) 64 bit
VirtualBox: 5.1.16
P.s. I can see some similar tickets created recently, but most of them are not with Windows host.

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 5.1.18.

Those recent tickets talk about the test builds that fix the issue. Did you try any of these? https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds
