Description
Hello world :-)
In VirtualBox 5.1.14 macOS I have noticed that after removing a local ISO file I get this warning on unavailable media. But I am unable to remove this media from the list as it is attached to a past snapshot in one of my machines. So I had to revert the machine state in order to detach the missing image. This caused loss of work progress that I had on the machine I had to revert..
I think it should be possible to detach (missing) media images even from past snapshots..
Best regards, Tomek
Not really, because that would definitely alter the state of the snapshot. That's the whole idea of the snapshot. To keep a state of the VM exactly as it were in the time that you took the snapshot, including the state of the CD drive and its contents.
Having said that, if you feel adventurous, and you are 100% sure that at the time that you were took the snapshot, you were NOT accessing the CD, you could (in theory) remove that entry from the .VBOX file, with unexpected results of course, because the rest of the VM is under the impression that the CD is there and valid. Use at your own risk...
And before you suggest that this could be implemented in VirtualBox, think of the issues your physical computer would have if at some point during normal operation, a CD/hard drive/other resource suddenly disappeared. It wouldn't like it, at all...
Finally, may I suggest something? It's usually better and faster, if problems like this one (configuration, question) get first addressed in the forums (https://forums.virtualbox.org/). More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".
So, you could have opened a thread in the Using VirtualBox section of the forums.
