#15841 closed defect (fixed)

VirtualBox on Windows Host / Ubuntu 16.04 LTS guest crash with Alt Gr escaped keys.

Reported by: sharp_pixel Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 5.1.4
Keywords: Alt Gr, Crash, French Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

After typing 5 or 6 'Alt Gr' escaped characters in the Linux Guest, VirtualBox crashes.

I have a french (AZERTY) keyboard and I use 'Alt Gr' all the time for '[', '|', '@', ']', '{' and '}' characters.

It is thus impossible to program anything in the guest under those circumstances.

Host is Windows 10 1607 14393.51 64-bit French. Guest is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit.

I do have the same problem (VM crashes) since upgrade to version 5.1.3 (or maybe 5.1.2), and also with 5.1.4. It occurs with Windows Server 2012 R2 guest on W10 host.

It also occurs with the "alt" key, e.g. alt+tab to switch between apps a few times.

Note: I also use an AZERTY (FR) keyboard.

Can you provide a Windows application dump, see here?

Unfortunately, I had to downgrade back to v5.0.26 so the crash does not occur anymore and I can work.

I have the same problem (VM crashes) since windows10 anniversary update. I had to upgarde vbox. Host Win10, guest Win7 64 prof. The guest system randomly crashed because of Altgr keystroke, as we can see on the top. ('[', '|', '@', ']', '{' and '}' ) I have Hungarian qwertz keyboard. I've already killed guest additions service, disabled graphics accelerateting.

Well known error message with virtualbox.exe: The Instruction at 0x... referenced memory at 0x... The memory could not be read

In addition to, the shared clipboard doesn't operate since vbox 5.1.* versions.

This problem sounds like a duplicate of #15719 and is most likely fixed. Could you verify that the most recent 5.1 Windows test build fixes the problem for you?

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 5.1.10.

Looks good with V5.1.10 I installed this morning; no crash at the moment.
