Vbox 5.1 fails to show its UI if kernel modules are not installed

Description
I installed VirtualBox-5.1.0-108711-Linux_amd64.run and while previous versions of VirtualBox ran just fine without installed kernel modules, version 5.1 never starts while in console you get an endless stream of the same error:
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module available for the current kernel (4.5.5-ic64) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by sudo /sbin/vboxconfig You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
I'd like the previous behavior to be reinstated: you can run VBox GUI but when you want to start any VM, this message is shown.

I cannot reproduce your problem. Just installed the 5.1.0 Linux .run package locally, unloaded the VBox drivers and tried to start the GUI.

I've discovered why I had this problem.
For some reasons I had a /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox file lying around while the rest of the application was deleted and a new one installed into /opt/VirtualBox.
This is quite a weird situation, so I guess this bug report is invalid and might be closed.

Thanks for the additional information.
That's certainly annoying but not a blocker.
