VM crashes upon entering fullscreen. Starts in windowed mode very small

Description
When I start any VM it starts in a window about 200x100px. I can resize it but going full screen causes a crash.
Host: Toshiba Satellite S55-A5275 Windows 7 64bit ultimate Intel I7-4700MQ 8GB Ram 1TB Hdd NVidia GeForce GT 740M

This happens with all guests. I've messed with the display settings, nothing worked so far.

Run sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt, then reboot. This has solved the crash problem for other Windows 7 users.
