VNC Failure on 5.0.18 & 5.0.19

Description

I am running on a Windows 10 host with all of the patches. After upgrading to 5.0.18, when starting VNC in Oracle 7.2(4.1.12-32.2.3.el7uek.x86_64) all I get is the gray screen with the clipboard checkbox block on it.

It seems that VNC is starting another gnome session on the main display window rather than for the VNCSERVER. When I start the vncserver, the screen flashes and i am presented with a new gnome screen. If I max and resize the window, I get back the screen I was working with except the cursor looses where it really is. (about a half line off)

This works great in 5.0.16-105871 and that is the current workaround I am using.

I am using the TigerVNC Xvnc that comes with the distribution. I tried the 5.0.19 release and it fails under that release as well.

Running a bit more tests, it seems that the failure starts when I install the Guest Additions code. It starts to fail immediately - without even rebooting the guest. Rebooting the host and guest made no difference - still fails.

If I upgrade to 5.0.18 and NOT install the new version of the Guest Additions code, the vncserver works as it should.

Hope this update helps a little with this regression issue.

The /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from the guest is probably interesting.

I uploaded the /var/log/Xorg.0.log as requested. I also gave you the log file created by the vncserver command.

This still happens in Version 5.0.24r108355. I am now running Oracle Linux 4.1.12-37.5.1.el7uek.x86_64.

By turning off the 3D Acceleration the system seems to again work correctly. This seems to effect Oracle Linux 6 differently as noted in Bug 15574.

I added the following to bug report 15574....

I am running on Windows 10 and using Oracle Linux 6 with the current (4.1.12-37.5.1.el6uek.x86_64)Kernel for UEK4. With the 3D acceleration turned on it simply stops at the "Starting certmonger" phase. It says "Okay" but it the system just sits there. When I turn 3D off, the system boots, but when the display window is resized, the linux display does not resize along with it.

The likely reason for this (the VNC issue, I will look at the other ticket separately) is a change to our X11 guest 3D library set-up. Many applications which were previously failing to use acceleration use it as of the 5.0.18 Additions. Unfortunately this exposes a number of bugs which were hidden before. And to make the bad news even worse, chances are that we will not get the chance to look at this properly any time in the near future. I explained the background on the X11 guest 3D wiki page, which is basically a plea for user contributions.

4 years old without any more reports. if this is still happening with the 6.0.X or 6.1 train releases please re-open with the corresponding details and how to reproduce.
