change of graphics - to the worse

Description

Hello

The 1.6.0 version of VirtualBox ships with new icons and graphics. To me it seems this damages the image of the product as the new graphics appears worse than the old one. Of course, my view might be somewhat biased by the fact I am used to the old graphics but there are some points that are objective I think.

  • the icons have more aggressive and less balanced colors, especially the one with gray-blue box and orange something
  • the BIOS screen is white which is very annoying since it quickly changes to the black BIOS text and OS boot screen. Not to mention that I am not particularly fond of jeans or sport boots - more abstract images would do much better here.
  • the OS X icon is very non-Mac like - both the colors and the overall design - icons on OS X tend to have a 3D object with no background

I have the same thinking about it. Although some icons came to the creating machine wizard they think to much about the image SUN has. And believe me the support of SUN is bad ! They won't give any support so why there name is there I don't get it. They only bought it but nothing else... And boot screen is the most annoing indeed !

Please, this is a bug report, and it is about the design of the new graphics, not about the merits of Sun acquiring VirtualTek.

I think that the graphics is inferior compared to the old one but then perhaps the work was hasted to make it into this release, and could be improved for the next.

The current graphics certainly does not fit neither into OS X desktop nor Windows XP desktop. If it fits into Solaris desktop I pity its users.

I intentionally leave out Linux desktops here as those have configurable look.

Should be better in 1.6.2.

The 1.6.2 graphics is certainly an improvement.

However, one of the most annoying parts remains: the BIOS boot logo.

The boot logo is light and is immediately replaced with dark boot screen of the OS. It is true that some OSes may have light boot screens but changing the video mode and loading the boot loader does not happen instantly so there will be annoying flashing anyway.

The same graphics also appears in various other places where it might possibly fit better but I'm already fed up with it. While it might be interesting idea for a brochure cover I certainly don't like seeing it on every boot.

The VBox 3D icon works well on OS X but is quite hard to recognize on the tiny windows task bar.

Since Sun bought Innotek, the artwork has degraded in quality significantly, especially the "Help->about" and BIOS logo at VM boot.

I would really ask to upgrade it to something nice, beyond a man with a laptop looking at it's own feet.

v 1.6.4 is still bad, just as 1.6.0.

Additional comment: In Add/Remove programs, the uninstall icon of Guest Additions looks differently in Windows 2000 than XP guests. The setup script needs update.

Should be finally fixed in 2.2.0. No more complaints please! ;-P
