Description
I am using a TV Online application that makes use Internet Explorer engine to fetch content and Windows Media Player to render the decoded Sopcast streams. The problem is that I can't switch Sopcast channels. The whole application crashes as soon as I browse away from currently playing SopCast stream and also if I close the application while a SopCast stream is playing. This application requires 3D acceleration for SopCast streams to work otherwise you'd experience black screen with audio only, but no crash.
VMWare is unaffected but I dislike it due to poor performance.
Applications involved: -Cool TV Online application: http://www.cool-tv.net/help-tv.html -Internet Explorer 8 -Windows Media Player 11
Optional software (doesn't affect this issue, removes ads from Cool TV Online application): -Java Runtime -nxfilter: http://www.nxfilter.org

During the installation and at every startup Cool TV Online would ask to install Adobe Flash Player. This is not necessary nor relevant for this issue. To trigger the crash just select any channel from TV section. If multiple streams are listed when hovering a certain channel select the first one. First stream is always in Sopcast format. If getting error 475 or 481 just come back another time. SopCast network experience periodical DDOS attacks. Let the channel start playing, open Task Manager and kill vxplayer.exe this will force the application to use Windows Media Player instead of its pre-included fork of VLC. Browse away by clicking the top-left button or by closing the application and experience the crash. VLC has and always had poor reliability at playing SopCast streams.

This seams to be caused by the fact that Virtualbox makes use of WineD3D to implement D3D8 and D3D9 support which is affected by this issue as well. I tested WineD3D Windows port in place of the Direct3D implemented in guest additions with same results. I used the port from the following address: http://adolfintel.com/index.php?p=wined3d/index.frag which is under active development.
nxfilter configuration file. Blocks ads in Cool TV Online, most of them are obvious malvertising acts. Stop nxfilter windows service, then replace config.h2.db in nxfilter/db, restart the service and set DNS IP to match the guest OS IP (default: 10.0.2.15). nxfilter is a DNS proxy.
