Description

Hi to all, Since a few weeks I have a brand new computer with 8gb RAM so I installed Virtual box. Created a few VM,s and all was playing well. Last week I upgraded the host to Windows 10, since than, the VM's in Virtualbox react poor and when playing youtube or movies, it seems if the data is coming through an old modem line or so. Has anyone experience with this problem? Add ons and so are all installed und drivers are all ok. Look forward to your tips.

Please attach a VBox.log file of such a VM session. You also might want to check the latest Windows test build where we fixed a problem with playing videos with 2D acceleration. Make sure to have 2D video acceleration enabled and to have the corresponding 5.0.5 Guest Additions installed.

Hi Frank, Installed test version, upgraded guest addition. started Windows 7 VM, started YouTube in IE and still performance problem with showing the movie. On the host itself, no problem at all. Need urgent input or help to solve this. Kind regard, Ben

Please attach a new VBox.log file from a VM session where you tried to play the video. I just want to check a few more things of your configuration.

According to the log file, 2D video acceleration is disabled (VM settings). Any difference if you enable it?

Hi Frank, As soon as i click this option, accelaration > 2D video, i get a yellow warning sign. When i uncheck it, warning sign has gone away. Removed this error/warning with increasing video memory size to 128Mb. will start VM now. playing the video is still not good, wil send you the log file

Hi Frank, did you see something?

comment:12 by Frank Mehnert, 9 years ago

Actually VBox 5.0.4 and older has a bug which prevents video acceleration from working. Therefore please update to the latest 5.0.5 Windows test build AND the latest Additions from here. The test build has a fix for the problem but you also need to update the Guest Additions. The fix will be part of the next 5.0.x maintenance release.

Hi Frank, the installation of Virtual box was easy and done. But the installation of the guest addition crashes on vboxdrvinstall.exe. attached a pickture of the error. . question now, does the GA has to be installed on the host too or only in the VM. Because installation in the VM was no problem and after reboot the version is 102947.

Please do NOT install the Guest Additions on the host. Install them in the guest! Your current installed Additions are still VBox 5.0.4 so you will not be able to play accelerated 2D video. The picture you attached is most likely from the host, no surprise that the installation will fail there.

Please try to install the 5.0.5 Guest Additions in your guest again. Use the Guest Additions which are part of the 5.0.5 VirtualBox package!
