Description

No Windows 64-bit Guest Version choices on a 64-bit System

I discovered the answer based on information from the following site: http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2014/11/virtualbox-showing-32-bit-guest-versions-64-bit-host-os/

On a Lenovo ThinkCentre with Intel processor, running Windows 7, and disk encryption software, follow this process:

Boot normally, then run the Repair option from the Virtual Box Installer (not sure it's necessary, but I did it following one of the suggestions on the site), then do a Restart as suggested by the program).

Press F1 at boot time to get to the BIOS, ENABLE the Intel Virtualization feature in the Advanced menu, press F10 to save the BIOS setting change, and then continue with the normal Boot sequence.

Bring up Virtual Box again and the Windows 64-bit OS choices appear when you choose to create a new VM.

This works exactly like designed. To be able to run 64-bit guests you need to enable VT-x (Intel) or AMD-V (on AMD CPUs). See also the requirements listed in the user manual.
