Thanks. Any improvement with 4.3.27-r99282?

No it' still broken. Starting virtualbox.exe does nothing. Seems to load and quit immediately.

Not sure if this has caused it:

https://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/54997/vbox

No bcrypt.dll on Pre Vista Windows.

https://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/54931/vbox

54931 is also bogus because XP64 / Server 2003 supports the api with KB932370

http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/932370

but it's older and should already be in 99222 which works.

Thanks for looking into this. FRG

Replying to frg:

Indeed. This change is guilty. supR3HardenedWinLoadSystem32Dll() will not return if the DLL cannot be loaded. We will fix that.

r54931

54931 is also bogus because XP64 / Server 2003 supports the API with KB932370

This changeset is not bogus because this KB is normally not installed. The number of physical cores is used to determine if a user is allowed to start a VM with a number of VCPUs. We decided to be less restrictive on Windows 2003

The latest test build (revision 99293) should fix the startup problems on pre-Vista hosts.

Thanks. Will check it out tomorrow at the latest.

Thought that everybody who still clings to the old versions already should have KB932370 installed. I wasn't able to select more that 2 cores without it in the latest versions :)
