Segfault starting guests

Description

I am running VirtualBox 4.3.20 r96996. My host is a 64bit installation of CentOS 7 on an Intel Xeon CPU.

I am trying to install an older version of CentOS (32bit) as a guest in VirtualBox. I have created the virtual machine, but it crashes the instant it starts, as soon as the virtual machine's window appears but before anything else can happen. VirtualBox reports that it has no error info, but the following appears in dmesg each time the VM crashes:

===================================================================================

[ 1352.475633] EMT[13770]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f5e1e9227d1 sp 00007f5e01c85318 error 4 in libc-2.17.so[7f5e1e89c000+1b6000] [ 1352.490058] vboxnetflt: 0 out of 0 packets were not sent (directed to host)

===================================================================================

I have not enable any special features (i.e. IOAPIC, 3D acceleration, etc.). It mostly uses the VBox defaults for RHEL, except all drives are on SATA (as opposed to having the CD drive on IDE), and it uses more RAM and video RAM than VirtualBox normally sets -- but well within the capabilities of the host (which can handle quadruple the RAM and Video RAM that I've set).
