#13771 new defect

Crash When Entering Seamless/Fullscreen Mode

Reported by: BrandonGolway Owned by:
Component: guest control Version: VirtualBox 4.3.20
Keywords: Fullscreen, Seamless Cc:
Guest type: all Host type: Windows

Description

VirtualBox v4.3.20/4.3.21 crashes when I enter Fullscreen or Seamless mode. The guest OS will run perfectly in a regular window, but once you try to switch to one of those two modes it crashes after about a second or two. It doesn't matter what the guest is (Windows or Linux) and I have the guest add-ons installed in both of them. I'm running Windows 7 64 as my host OS. I have 20 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7, so power isn't a problem. The crash is repeatable, even across versions and clean installs. I wiped out my VMs and my settings, then booted a LiveCD and the same error happened.

Here's the actual error: The Instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory couldn't be written. Click OK to terminate the program.

I have same problem.
Fullscreen/Seamless mode only worked fine with 4.3.12.
I tried 4.3.16, 4.3.20, 4.3.22, and now 5.0. It seems all newer versions than 4.3.12 does not work for fullscreen/seamless mode.
Because now I go back to 4.3.12, I have no log at this time. But if someone wants, I can reproduce the problem and upload various information.

Host : windows 7 64bit
Guest: ubuntu 14.04 64bit

It would be great if you could provide log files and a mini-dump<1> too.

Today I tried to generate minidump with 5.0.2.
And could not generate minidump. I checked windows error report service is running and the registry settings. I don't know why I cannot get minidump. Now I will give up. If I can generate minidump, I will return here and upload logs and minidump.

Here you can find a possible fix and instructions for creating a process minidump, if the fix doesn't work.

'sfc /scannow' fixes my problem too.
Thanks a lot!
