Hi, I have the same problem on Windows 7 Professional with Symantec Endpoint Protection

Please attach VBoxStartup.log files for your VM sessions as well as VBox.log files (if they exist). This error does not happen here so without any additional information we are not able to debug your problems. Please also don't forget to mention which Virus scanners and Anti-Malware applications you are using.

I met the same issue with VirtualBox 5.0.10, and the host is Win7, the guest is Linux/Ubuntu. I did some search and found the solution in the following link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1373398

VirtualBox created 2 storage controllers for my guest OS. One is IDE, with "Use Host I/O Cache" checked, and the other is SATA, with the option unchecked. The hard disk file was located in the SATA controller. The problem disappeared after I checked the option "Use Host I/O Cache".

Wish this post could help to sovle the root cause.

News, this is not a general problem, ie we cannot reproduce this on our systems. Which VirtualBox version are you using? Also, in the related Ubuntu bug they report about "creating virtual disks" while this ticket is about starting a virtual machine. Are we talking about the same thing?

Windows 7 (x64) host, writing to say that that "Use Host I/O Cache" suggestion worked. Testing with image created for 5.0.12, was unable to load on [5.0.12, 5.0.10, 4.3.34].
