Ticket #13471 (closed defect: fixed)
VB Video driver should support Wayland -> fixed

Component: | guest additions/x11/graphics | Version: | VirtualBox 4.3.16 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | all |
Description
Some major distributions will be switching to Wayland in the near future. Currently, the video driver included with the guest tooling does not support Wayland. Running a virtual machine results in a black screen after boot (with the correct resolution).
Tested with Fedora 21 Alpha.
The full VBox.log from a machine starting Wayland is attached.

We are aware of this and working on it, but there is currently no estimate for when it will be done as we have many other things to work on too.

With GNOME and KDE the two big Linux desktops are moving to Wayland and it has already not been possible to test the GNOME desktop in a VB machine for months now. Please, could somebody care?

I agree, I honestly don't see why there seems to be so little interest in developing Wayland support for VirtualBox.

2D support has been working with Wayland for years now. With 6.0 you can get 3D support using VMSVGA.
