had been run on this system.

The kernel version which the Guest Additions are compiled against is 3.13.0-30 and this kernel was released much later than VBox 4.1.12. I also think that you mix something. Ubuntu 14.04 certainly does not ship VBox 4.1.12 Additions, I would assume that 14.04 ships either 4.3.10 or 4.3.12.
