Fullscreeen VM window disappears after resume from sleep on Win7 host

Description

I run Ubuntu 14.04 64bit guest on my Win7 64bit host with Intel processor.

I've put my PC to sleep (sleep to RAM) with the guest machine running in fullscreen on my tertiary display. After I resumed from sleep, the display of the VM showed just Windows desktop and no VM on that (screenshot 1).

I could not even Alt-Tab to the VM window, sice it was not in the list of running apps. Nor was there any icon in the taskbar. However, process monitor displayed a VB process running and it was still eating its usual several gigs of RAM.

Then I ran VB "manager app" and it showed the VM is running. When I clicked the "Show VM" button, only a gray rectangle displayed on my primary display in the usual place of the autohidden VM control bar. But it displayed no icons or text. However, it responded to mouse click events, so I blindly selected the View menu and unchecked the Fullscreen option. Then finally the VM window displayed and now it seems to run normally.

Maybe it could help to know that my Windows machine always moves all windows to the primary display when resuming from sleep. That would explain why the VM control bar appeared on the primary display.

When trying to replicate this bug, I found something interesting.

When I put the computer to sleep, then resume, and enter the unlocking password quickly, the VM remains displayed correctly, even on the correct display.

However, if I resume the computer and let it wait for some time on the unlock screen, then this bug happens.

Now I tried to connect the display using DVI instead of D-SUB and I've registered some changes in the behavior of windows on the secondary display. Now, the windows "remember" their assigned display after resuming from sleep, so they do not move to the primary display after waking up. However, the bug with VirtualBox fullscreen app remains the same, even though it correctly remembers the assigned display.
