VERR_VM_FATAL_WAIT_ERROR on OSX 10.8 and 10.9

Reported by: stelcheck Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 4.3.6
Keywords: Cc: Found in 4.3.2 and up
Guest type: other Host type: Linux

Description

Ref: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=60193&p=280111

We have seen this on multiple versions of VirtualBox, all 4.3.2r90405 and up (including one case on 4.3.6).

The VMs are 1GB of memory, 1 to 2CPU, 64 bit CentOS with different setups (all are running primarily Node.JS, but some datastores get installed, such as xtradb, couchbase and dynamodb dev), all hosted on OSX 10.8 and 10.9. In all cases where this crash happened, only one VM was currently running.

An example VBox.log can be found here: https://gist.github.com/stelcheck/9086085

I'd like to second this report. I'm seeing this too. It's on a Mac OS X 10.7 host, specifically a MacPro1,1 (early 2006 hardware) running VB 4.3.8. Guests have been 32 or 64 bit CentOS or Ubuntu OSes. Guest VM doesn't stay up for more than a few hours but usually about one hour, then this VMMR0_DO_GVMM_SCHED_HALT->VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER error.

I've also now seen this with a Win XP VM running on VB 4.3.8 on a MacMini2,1 running Mac OS X 10.7.5.

We ran into this problem as well:

Host: Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Macmini6,2, Late 2012)
VBox: 4.3.10 r93012
Guests: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x86 and x64

The guests are either LAMP or just bare Ubuntu Server plus OpenSSH.

Dat account though... for posting a comment on a ticket, my goodness m(

Thanks. We think we found and fixed the problem. Could you install this test build and confirm that this Guru Meditation does not occur anymore? Thanks!

Hi Frank, i was seeing the ticked opened from another user and just entering there. I was downloading that test version just now and testing it. I will let you know in max 5 days if problem was fixed or still there. Thank you.

Thanks, Frank. I just installed following seeing this error on OS X 10.9.2 and VirtualBox 4.3.10 and it resolved the VM from Guru Meditation to Aborted whereafter I was able to start the VM normally and leave this message containing my first use of 'whereafter' in a ticket.
