#12558 new defect

dock and menubar: auto-show in fullscreen doesn't work on OS X Mavericks

Reported by: Hong Xu Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 4.3.6
Keywords: menubar Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Mac OS X

Description

The option under "Virtual Box->Preferences" (dock and menubar: auto-show in fullscreen doesn't work on OS X Mavericks), seems not working on OS X Mavericks with Windows 8.1 guest. After I unchecked this option, when I pull the mouse to the top, the menubar still shows up.

I also tested Ubuntu guest, this feature doesn't work either.

This is frustrating for me, as Ubuntu has its menu bar in the same location.

The latest Virtualbox on OSX 10.9 Mavericks will not hide the menu bar even if the option is unchecked.

Confirmed on Mavericks 10.9.2 (host) + Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS.

This is a real annoyance, as neither VirtualBox nor Mac OS offer any alternative to that faulty behavior.

Even the Display Delay that can be set for the Dock (Mac OS terminal command) does not work in VB in fullscreen (while it works on Mac OS host).

There is maybe two ways to fix the problem

  1. Have the "Auto-show in Fullscreen" VBox option work as intended
  2. Respect the delay set by the "default write" command, as shown in link below

I can confirm that this is still an issue with VirtualBox 4.3.28 on OS X Yosemite (10.10.4).
