Replying to VVP:

Ok I will have to do late tomorrow. I think that file is quite large. about 35 GB. I will check and let you know before I do it.

the vmdk file is 20GB would you like that file also?

comment:10 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

Any thoughts? do you need any more data.

comment:11 by VVP, 10 years ago

I found something related to SCSI controller. Wrong processing. As workaround, would you try to reattach VMDK image to IDE controller. And repeat export/import operations? Or if you familiar with OVF description file structure you can modify it manually.

p.s. When I solve this issue I'll leave feedback here.

comment:12 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

I have no SCSI controller on my laptop. how do you reattach the wmdk image to the IDE controller. I know what a IDE controller is - hardware wise, etc. How do you unattached it and reattach it?? Thanks

comment:13 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

do you want the 20GB file?

comment:14 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

Can you modify the OVF file put it out here and let me use it?

VMDK image on IDE controller

comment:15 by VVP, 10 years ago

I talked about the SCSI controller inside your VM not about your real hardware. Apologize if it was unclear. I fixed the OVF description file as you had asked. Try it.

comment:16 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

Failed to import appliance C:\virtual_Box\export_A_IDE.ovf.

Root element in OVF file must be "Envelope"..

We are almost there. I am looking at the XML file, do you know what root element the error is referring to?

does it want the root element Envelope in quotes?

Strange. would you compare my and your OVF files? If you look at this you will see that I have changed one character in the file. They must be completely equal except one line 105:"<rasd:Parent>5</rasd:Parent>".

comment:21 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

I used your file to do the upload. I will try it again. (the virtual machines are on an other Laptop) but I just copied your file and used that, no changes were made. Let me try to copy it again and try it. Can I upload that 20 GB file to this website?

comment:22 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

I did a diff between your file and the original file. There are a lot of differences. Are you sure you uploaded the correct file for me to use? THANKS...

comment:24 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

Oh, I tried it again and got the same error message. Any thoughts?

comment:25 by VVP, 10 years ago

ok. I guess the error could happened because the file had been changed on Linux system and was opened on Windows system. Would you change the file yourself? Just change the line 105: from "<rasd:Parent>4</rasd:Parent>" to "<rasd:Parent>5</rasd:Parent>".

Thus, you will attach VMDK image to the IDE controller instead SCSI controller.

the full section will look like:

I sent you the log files, just a note is this suppose to work?

comment:30 by VVP, 10 years ago

hmm, I see two errors in the log file:

  1. Could not find file for the medium 'C:\Users\Administrator\VirtualBox VMs\vm\export_A-disk1_1.vmdk'
  2. Could not open the medium storage unit 'C:\virtual_Box\export_A-disk1.vmdk'

are both of these files exist?

what is the folder which you use for import (from which folder)?

for the file C:\Users\Administrator\VirtualBox VMs\vm\export_A-disk1_1.vmdk - It looks as the non-existing VMDK image. for the file C:\virtual_Box\export_A-disk1.vmdk - It looks as wrong or broken VMDK image.

I will try this again, please note I have upgraded to the latest version. The above fixes should exist. I will try again and send you the log files. Thanks for all your help.

comment:32 by Richard_Brown, 10 years ago

One more thing, I could just send you the exported files form VMWare and you can test it yourself. The files are about 30GB in total size.

Should be fixed in VBox 5.0. Please reopen if necessary.
