I have an optiplex 990 with the latest bios and virtualization enabled in the bios but VirtualBox will not work with 64 bit guests.

Resolution: worksforme
Status: newclosed

Please select the OS type "Windows 7 (64 bit)" and your guest will work. This is a bit more strict than with older VBox versions.

For the sake of spiders, one can also use:

VBoxManage modifyvm <vmname> --longmode on

To set that it's a 64-bit capable guest.
