VBox display driver doesn't work in conjunction with DisplayLink

Description
On a Windows guest (Linux host, but I'm not sure that is relevant), enable 2D & 3D acceleration then enable a DisplayLink USB display device. The desktop will appear on the DisplayLink device as expected, but mouse click locations become offset from the actual cursor location and there are drawing problems.
The DisplayLink device in question works correctly with Windows running natively.
