Description
On a Dell M6300 notebook with preinstalled Windows XP Pro on the second partition I added an OpenSuSE 10.3 64 Bit system on the third and some extended partitions and installed a dual boot mode using GRUB. Both systems are able to boot via the GRUB boot menu. I created a raw VMDK image according to the user manual and a WIN XP virtual machine based on the VMDK raw image. I also imported the boot record of the WIN XP partition according to the installation hints in the user manual. But when I try to start WIN XP as guest, I only get a black screen. The same behavior I had with an OpenSuSE 10.3 32Bit system. If I first create a VMDK based VM for WIN XP and then do a fresh install of WIN XP into the VM, every works fine. For my understanding it should not matter, wether I do a fresh install of a guest onto a raw partition or just take an already installed one and import it to VirtualBox via the VMDK technique.
