Description
VM running Windows8 64-bit with no applications running. I was busy doing other things. I came back to the VM and there was a critical error and the VM had been stopped.

Your VM was running on VBox 4.2.6 not 4.2.12.
The error your saw normally means that some applications entered the VT-x root mode which does not work in parallel to VirtualBox.
