started to happen after I updated to 4.2.12 recently.

The issue has already been reported and Work is in progress for it.

Are there any third party network filters installed like Antivirus etc and whats the network card you are using.

What is the host and guest version and are you using bridged networking.?

Request you to please post a complete kernel dump file.
