Description
The problem arises when several VMs are running (in normal, not headless mode) and Dock.app restarts on the host OS, OSX, which is the result of the dock crashing and happens from time to time but normally goes unnoticed. It can be simulated by doing "killall Dock" in a terminal.
If several VMs were running and all had icons in the dock, once Dock.app restarts, all but the first one make it back into the dock.
This is inconvenient because the only way to get to the missing VMs again is by using the VM Manager. It's doubly inconvenient because the only way to return these VMs to the dock without losing state is to save and restart each one.
Perhaps it happens because each VirtualBoxVM has the same application name? Might I suggest, if this kills two birds with one stone, to give each running VM display its own name in the dock, which would also make it easier to identify them.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
Edit: I said all but the first one make it back into the dock. What I meant to say was only the first one makes it back into the dock, the rest do not.
