Solaris 11.1 VirtualBox 4.2.6 USB Issues

Description

I have a Windows 7 guest running on a Solaris 11.1 host with VirtualBox 4.2.6. Ever since I upgraded to Solaris 11.1 I have been getting problems with timeouts on the USB ports within the Windows guest.

The problems have been reported elsewhere with some suggestions that an older version of the VirtualBox driver be used. I did try this but started getting kernel panics.

The related syslog messages are

vboxdrv: [ID 351244 kern.notice] vboxusb:vboxUSBSolarisBulkXfer usb_pipe_bulk_xfer enmDir=0x2 Ep=0x1 failed! rc=-6

The attached USB devices are a Canon printer and a Aeon Labs Zwave interface.

The same configuration works on a Fedora 18 host so I guess there could be a problem with the Solaris drivers.

Please could someone help.

Replying to windy:

Haveing the same issue: Can not use my IPAD within Windows XP Guest, running on Solaris 11.1 with SRU4-06 installed and using VirtualBox 4.2.10...

I think there is nothing missing. It worked with Solaris 11 Express and previous version of Virtualbox (4.0.x)...

Here my messages log..

Is there a workaround? Or I have to install on another machine my old Solaris 11 Express!

I have noticed this same problem, even asked in the user forums. Any type of USB connection to any guest (I've tried Windows XP, 7, 8, Solaris 11.0, 11.1, and Ubuntu 11.10, 12.10) results in the same error. No USB connections can be give to a guest. I've seen this on Solaris 11.1 SRU 2.5 and higher. I don't know if the problem exists without any SRUs installed.

I'm attaching a Windows 7 guest vbox.log file. I've also noticed that on one system, attaching a USB device to a guest crashes the host (this never happened on Solaris 11.0). On another system there is no crash, but all the problems described above and in the log. The host that generated the log is running 11.1 SRU 6.4.

Problem persists with 4.2.12 on all the guests I mentioned in the previous post.
